Review Queues
Stack Overflow implements Review Queues.
Review Queues give users 20 things to check out and give their feedback on. Depending on the amount of reputation people have, more review queues are unlocked.
The initial queues are showcasing things users can already see and allow them to respond in ways they were already able to do.
For example, "New Answers" is a queue which shows new answers in a tag that you are believed to have an interest (based on views, questions and answers), and asks you whether these answers are good (i.e. to up or downvote them), if you have any comments (place comments), suggestions for edits to improve them or to flag them. By showing the user a limited amount of items, that cannot be extended, they are both rewarded for helping the community (yay you helped us by completing your queue!) and are protected against overburdening themselves / overloading them with work, which may turn them off from investing in the community.
More permissive queues unlock as you gain more reputation.
Other queues which SO uses are "New Questions", "Suggested Edits", etc. For suggested edits, they use a consensus mechanism to approve edits.
Ideally, here would be some screenshots.
Important considerations:
- Does this fit the product?
- To which degree can/should we copy this from StackOverflow?
- How does this combine with the abilities? Do we want to guard by abilities instead?
- This could be a way to give meaning to reputation, which at the moment is only a number and not actually used.
